A Georgian Christmas At May Street Presbyterian Church Belfast

May Street in the heart of Belfast will be going back in time on the evening of Thursday December 6th with our annual Georgian Christmas. It's the fourth year we have organised the open-air event and this year it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The minister of May Street church, Keith Drury, said, 'The purpose of our Georgian Christmas is to celebrate the Advent season and give a bit of a buzz to the city centre in the run-up to Christmas. Among the attractions will be a Georgian town crier, choirs of school children singing carols from the church steps and a Georgian horsedrawn carriage offering rides.

'We have selected the Georgian theme because our church dates from the Georgian era - it was built in 1829. We are grateful to the PSNI and several other sponsors including Marks & Spencer who are providing seasonal refreshments such as mince pies and Christmas cake to be enjoyed by passers-by.'

Inside the church, the attractions will range from a display of Georgian period costumes to face-painting and story-telling for children. Down in the basement, the Urban Soul café you can enjoy the timeless delights of the music of Chris Malinski and Gao Xiang while sampling one of our specialty coffees or exquisite desserts. The event runs from 5pm to 8pm.

An added bonus this year is that we have Radio U105 as our media partners and we hope that some of the presenters from the station will join us for part of the time.

Among the schools that will be participating are St Malachy’s Primary School, Edenbrooke Primary School, Grosvenor Grammar School and Strathearn School.

The event coincides with the Christmas Market in the nearby grounds of Belfast City Hall, so if you are looking for an evening with a difference, come on down.
